‘breth - a spoken sound; spirit, animation
2 Merest breath, said Qohelet, merest breath. All is mere breath.
3 What gain is there for man in all his toil that he toils under the sun.
4 A generation goes and a generation comes, but the earth endures forever.
5 The sun rises and the sun sets, and to its place it glides, there it rises.
6 It goes to the south and swings round to the north, round and round goes the wind, and on its rounds the wind returns.
7 All the rivers go to the sea, and the sea is not full.
Qohelet 1:2-7, from Robert Alter’s The Hebrew Bible.
Although most of my public writing is software or on software the majority of what I actually write day in and day out concerns religious matters, mostly in longhand. Perhaps it is a kind of prayer, as Pr. Ernst Toller suggests in First Reformed. What I have collected here is much of the writing I’ve done for services at the University Lutheran Chapel where I am a member.
I intend to take a longer project on Job out of longhand but we will see.
